Actor Yash has responded to criticism over the reported budget of Ramayana, one of the most ambitious projects in Indian cinema. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the epic features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana. The film is reportedly being made on a budget of around ₹4,000 crore. Speaking at the film’s trailer launch event in Bengaluru on October 15, Yash said the budget was being discussed to help international audiences understand the scale of Indian filmmaking.
Yash said filmmakers should confidently communicate a movie’s production scale and investment while promoting it overseas. Presenting a film as a low-budget project, he argued, could lead international audiences to underestimate its significance. He said Ramayana should be seen not merely as an expensive production but as an opportunity to showcase India’s technical expertise, creativity and filmmaking capabilities to the world. Ravi Dubey and Rakul Preet Singh are also part of the cast, while A. R. Rahman is composing the music. The epic is being made in two parts, with the first reportedly scheduled for release during Diwali.
