It is common for films released in theatres to later make their way to television channels. However, movies cannot always be telecast on television in exactly the same version that was screened in theatres. Television broadcasts operate under specific content rules, particularly for films that have received an ‘A’ certificate. Such films may require modifications and certification for television transmission, resulting in certain scenes, dialogues or other content being removed or altered before the telecast.
OTT platforms, meanwhile, operate under a different regulatory framework. Unlike theatrical and television releases, OTT content does not generally go through the same advance CBFC certification process for each title. Instead, streaming platforms follow age classifications, content advisories and self-regulatory mechanisms. As a result, the same film can appear in different versions across theatres, television and OTT platforms, depending on the rules and content requirements applicable to each medium.
