In a surprising turn of events, Tamil cinema fans were left confused after director Sundar C walked out of the much-anticipated project Thalaivar 173, which was expected to reunite Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan after several decades. The film, formally announced last week by Kamal Haasan’s production house, had Rajinikanth in the lead and Sundar C as the director. However, Sundar C revealed that he is stepping away from the project due to unforeseen circumstances. What shocked fans even more was Kamal Haasan’s admission that the script for the film is not yet finalized, as Rajinikanth was reportedly not fully convinced with the story narrated so far.
Adding to the confusion, Kamal Haasan revealed that both he and Rajinikanth are still listening to scripts for another ambitious project in which they plan to share the screen after forty years. This revelation has raised eyebrows, as both actors had officially confirmed their collaboration months ago. With both Thalaivar 173 and the Rajinikanth–Kamal Haasan multi-starrer announced without locked scripts, fans are questioning the intention behind such premature announcements. Kamal Haasan confirmed that the hunt for a capable director for Thalaivar 173 is underway, but clarity on when the long-awaited Rajini–Kamal film will begin remains uncertain.
