Tollywood actors Naga Chaitanya, Sai Dharam Tej, and Nikhil Siddhartha are currently working on ambitious pan-Indian films aimed at expanding their market across India. However, reports suggest that the changing OTT business landscape is creating fresh concerns for the makers of these high-budget projects. Naga Chaitanya’s “Vrushakarma,” directed by Virupaksha fame Karthik Dandu and produced by BVSN Prasad, is reportedly the most expensive film in Chaitanya’s career. While the theatrical rights have already been sold, industry buzz indicates that the OTT offer is lower than expected, affecting the overall revenue calculations.
A similar situation is reportedly being faced by Sai Dharam Tej’s “Sambarala Yeti Gattu” and Nikhil Siddhartha’s “Swayambhu.” Despite expectations of strong digital business after the success of “Virupaksha,” OTT platforms are said to be taking a cautious approach toward big-budget Telugu films. Trade analysts believe the recent performance of certain films and limited pre-release buzz are impacting non-theatrical deals. In the case of “Swayambhu,” pending OTT negotiations are reportedly delaying the announcement of a new release date.
