For months, fans have eagerly awaited more details about the much-hyped multistarrer featuring two of India’s biggest cinema legends — Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. The prospect of these two icons sharing the screen has created massive anticipation across the country. While both stars have confirmed the project on separate occasions, one major mystery still remains — who is directing it?
Initially, reports suggested that Lokesh Kanagaraj would helm the film. Lokesh, who previously collaborated with Kamal Haasan in Vikram and with Rajinikanth in Coolie, seemed the natural choice. However, fresh sources indicate that Lokesh wasn’t fully convinced by the script and has instead chosen to focus on Kaithi 2, the sequel to his blockbuster Kaithi (2019), which is part of his cinematic universe.
The film is being jointly produced by RKFI and Red Giant Movies, two of Tamil cinema’s most influential banners. Reportedly, the producers have been in discussions with several young and dynamic directors capable of handling a project of such magnitude. Names like Karthik Subbaraj (Petta) and Pradeep Ranganathan (Love Today) have been considered.
Now, new industry buzz suggests that Nelson Dilipkumar, the director of Jailer, could take charge. Nelson, who is currently busy with Jailer 2, has previously delivered a massive hit with Rajinikanth and is known for his signature dark comedy style — making him a strong contender to direct this high-profile project.
As of now, Rajinikanth continues shooting for Jailer 2, while Kamal Haasan awaits the release of Indian 3 directed by Shankar. Fans across India are waiting with bated breath for the official announcement to see who will bring these two cinematic legends together on the big screen.
