Obscene videos and morphed images created using artificial intelligence are emerging as a serious concern for the film industry. Distorted photos and videos of celebrities being circulated online are causing distress not only to actors but also to their fans. Recently, an altered version of a song from ‘Devara’ reportedly created a stir, prompting Jr NTR to warn that those involved in such acts would not be spared. Experts believe that simply reacting after such incidents occur is not enough and that stronger systems are needed to identify and prevent such cyber offences at an early stage.
Strict action is needed against those who create or circulate morphed and deepfake content. Dedicated cyber support centres should be available for complaints, while platforms and authorities need effective mechanisms to remove objectionable content quickly. Actors and other public figures can also adopt privacy settings, watermarks and other digital security measures when sharing personal images. Fans should avoid forwarding suspicious posts and report them instead. As AI-generated content can appear convincing, users must verify the authenticity of what they see before believing or sharing it.
