A banner put up during the Aadi festival celebrations at the Periya Mariamman Temple has sparked controversy on social media. The flex featured actress Trisha portrayed in the attire of the goddess, while actor Vijay appeared above her in his signature Assembly pose. The banner quickly went viral, with many people objecting to the depiction of a film actress in a divine form.
Following the backlash, the banner was removed overnight and replaced with another. Police registered a case for installing the banner without permission and for its objectionable content. A case has been filed against shop owner Gokul and installer Chandru, who are reportedly absconding. The incident has also revived discussions over the frequent public attention surrounding Vijay and Trisha and the use of celebrities' images during temple festivals.
