In the film industry, several projects that begin with high expectations are often shelved midway when the output fails to meet standards. A similar situation occurred in the career of Vijay Deverakonda. After the release of Dear Comrade in 2019, which did not meet expectations, Vijay signed a sports-based film titled Hero under the direction of Anand Annamalai and produced by Mythri Movie Makers. He was set to play a professional bike racer, with Malavika Mohanan and Shalini Pandey cast as the female leads.
The film was launched on a grand scale, and nearly ₹6 crore was spent on the first schedule. However, Vijay was reportedly not satisfied with the output. Though there were discussions about revising the script, the director could not fully convince the actor and producers. Despite rumors of a restart, the project was eventually shelved as Vijay became busy with other commitments. Currently, Vijay and Mythri Movie Makers are collaborating on Ranabali, which has already generated strong buzz among audiences.
