Bollywood's much-awaited romantic comedy ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’ has landed in controversy even before its theatrical release. Production house Pooja Entertainment has filed a massive ₹400 crore damages suit against director David Dhawan, alleging unauthorized use of iconic songs from its classic hit film ‘Biwi No.1’. The company has claimed that portions of the original soundtrack were incorporated into the upcoming film without obtaining the necessary permissions.
In its legal petition, Pooja Entertainment has sought an immediate stay on the film’s promotions, release, and streaming activities. The production house also issued a press statement demanding the removal of the disputed songs and a change of the film’s title. It further warned that if the contested content remains in the film, an additional ₹100 crore compensation claim could be pursued. Directed by David Dhawan, the romantic comedy stars Varun Dhawan in the lead role alongside Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde, and is scheduled for release on June 5.
