The title rights issue surrounding SS Rajamouli’s ambitious film Varanasi has been settled through mutual understanding. Director Subba Reddy had registered the title with the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce before it was selected for Rajamouli and Mahesh Babu’s project. Since industry regulations do not permit the same title to be used for two different films, discussions were held to resolve the matter. Subba Reddy ultimately agreed to transfer the title without accepting any financial compensation.
Subba Reddy said it was a privilege to offer the title to a prestigious film starring his favourite actor Mahesh Babu and directed by Rajamouli. The title transfer documents were officially handed over to producer KL Narayana in the presence of former Telugu Directors’ Association president Veera Shankar and Producers’ Council general secretary T. Prasanna Kumar. Industry representatives described the gesture as an example of unity and mutual respect. Produced by KL Narayana along with SS Karthikeya, Varanasi is scheduled to release on April 7 next year.
