SS Rajamouli recently attended the 50th São Paulo International Film Festival, also known as Mostra de São Paulo, marking his first visit to Brazil. During an interaction with the audience, the filmmaker revealed that his upcoming adventure film Varanasi, starring Mahesh Babu in the lead role, is five to six times bigger in scale than his blockbuster RRR. Rajamouli also shared an interesting detail about the film’s production, explaining that extensive planning helped the team complete the shoot more efficiently. While RRR took 315 days to film, Varanasi was shot in 275 days despite being a much larger project, saving the team 40 days.
Rajamouli further revealed that he is planning a massive worldwide theatrical release for Varanasi. Unlike RRR, which went directly to streaming in Brazil, he wants audiences around the world to experience this globetrotting adventure on the big screen. Produced by KL Narayana’s Durga Arts, the film features Prithviraj Sukumaran and Priyanka Chopra in pivotal roles alongside Mahesh Babu. With its ambitious scale and international release plans, Varanasi is generating considerable anticipation among moviegoers. More details about its release strategy and promotional campaign are expected as the project progresses.
