Tragedy Strikes Telugu Film Industry...Veteran Actor Passes Away

Veteran Telugu actor, theatre stalwart and writer YS Krishnaswara Rao passed away at his residence in Guntur on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. He had been undergoing treatment for respiratory and heart-related health issues. His demise has left the Telugu film and theatre fraternity in deep sorrow.

Krishnaswara Rao developed a passion for theatre during his school days and went on to act in more than 1,500 plays during his long career. He also wrote and staged several experimental plays and received multiple Nandi Awards at the state level. He was among the founders of Ponnur Kalaparishath and made his silver-screen debut with Prachanda Bharatam, encouraged by veteran actor M. Prabhakar Reddy. He also wrote the story for the film and went on to act in several movies. Film and theatre personalities have expressed condolences, remembering his invaluable contribution to Telugu art and culture.
