Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise is set to appear in the upcoming satirical black comedy Digger, directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu. The film, which also stars Riz Ahmed, Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Jesse Plemons and Michael Stuhlbarg, is scheduled to hit theatres on October 2. However, Digger has received a mixed early response, debuting with a 52% score on Rotten Tomatoes. According to Variety, the film is projected to earn around $12 million to $15 million in its opening weekend in North America.
The projected opening has raised concerns over the film’s box-office prospects, particularly as it reportedly needs to gross around $350 million worldwide to break even. Digger marks Tom Cruise’s first original film since 2017’s American Made. The actor has actively promoted the movie, which faces the additional challenge of attracting audiences to a black comedy. The film’s performance also comes at a difficult time for Warner Bros., whose recent releases have struggled to cross $100 million domestically.
