Veteran Tamil film financier and distributor Tiruppur Subramaniam has criticised the long-standing practice of leading stars skipping promotional events for films produced by others. He questioned the industry’s double standards, pointing out that actors such as Ajith Kumar actively promote their racing ventures and brand endorsements, while Nayanthara promotes films backed by her own production house but often stays away from promotional events for projects financed by outside producers.
Subramaniam’s comments have triggered debate among trade circles over the huge remuneration demanded by top stars despite limited involvement in promoting their films. He urged Tamil producers to include mandatory promotional commitments in future contracts. He also suggested that if stars refuse to support films after taking substantial remuneration, producers could collectively reconsider working with them, potentially bringing changes to the way film marketing and business are handled in Kollywood.
