Suma is the first name that invariably comes up when people in Tollywood discuss the most sought-after anchor someone whose dates are nearly impossible to get. Her flawless Telugu and vivacious hosting style have kept her at the top for decades since she moved to Telugu states from Kerala. Suma continues to be the preferred host, whether it's a modest ₹3-crore film event or a huge global film like Varanasi with a ₹1000-crore budget. It's interesting to note that she is returning as an actress with the upcoming movie Premante, which opens the day after tomorrow, even as she continues to dominate the stage.
Many people are unaware that Suma began her career in Tollywood as a heroine. Auditions for Dasari Narayana Rao's film Kalyana Praptirastu were announced back in 1996. Only four of the thousands of applicants ,two of whom were Suma and star writer-director Vakkantham Vamshi were chosen after several screenings and tests. The story was set against the backdrop of a romantic-themed TV channel, and the filming went swiftly.
Despite Dasari's experience, Kalyana Praptirastu proved to be a box office failure as viewers rejected the poor narrative. Suma, one of the four chosen actors, eventually made the move to television, rose to the position of top anchor in the business, and eventually started a lovely family with Rajeev Kanakala. She even sees her son Roshan play a hero in movies these days. Fans are excited to see if Premante will overcome her "acting sentiment" after her previous attempt at acting in Jayamma Panchayathi failed. Suma is a police officer in this brand-new romance between Priyadarshi and Anandhi.
