The highly anticipated film "Akhanda 2 - Tandavam" is scheduled for release on December 12th, with advance bookings now open. Its arrival has significantly disrupted the Telugu film release calendar, forcing nearly 16 other movies originally set for the same date to postpone their premieres. Among the affected films are "Eesha," "Annagaru Vastaru," and "Sakotharanam," which have moved to December 25th, while "Siddhartha" and other smaller releases have shifted to later dates in January. The release of Rajinikanth's "Sivaji" for a re-release has also been impacted due to theatre availability.
This phenomenon highlights a common industry trend where big-budget films like "Akhanda 2" dominate screen space, compelling smaller productions to either reschedule or take a risky gamble by releasing simultaneously in hopes of benefitting from the increased footfall. The situation is further complicated by the upcoming global release of "Avatar 3" on December 19th, which will tighten theatre availability even more. Despite the competition, a few films like the dubbed movie "Annagaru Vastaru" and "Moglie" are proceeding with closely-timed releases, testing the traditional box office dynamics.
