The Paradise Director Clarifies the Controversial Scene

Natural Star Nani and director Srikanth Odela’s The Paradise has been generating buzz at the box office. However, a scene involving a mother and daughter has drawn criticism and trolling on social media. The dialogue, “You are a single-take artist, child,” along with the sequence in which the mother makes her daughter record videos, led some viewers to question the intention behind the scene. Responding to the controversy, Srikanth Odela explained the idea behind the sequence and the emotional context attached to it.

According to the director, the girl had earlier run away from home with dreams of becoming an actress. At the time, her mother had discouraged her, saying she had no acting ability and would never get an opportunity in films. When circumstances later force the daughter to perform in front of her mother, the mother recognises her talent and acknowledges that she is genuinely a gifted artist, creating the intended emotional payoff. Srikanth Odela admitted that the setup did not connect properly on screen because a childhood establishing scene had to be removed during editing due to the film’s runtime. He said the omission resulted in the scene being interpreted differently by some viewers, making the mother appear to be exploiting her daughter. The director and Nani have acknowledged the issue and explained the creative intention behind the sequence.
