The iconic Telugu folk song ‘Anita O Anita’ carries a deeply emotional love story behind it. Singer and folk writer Nagaraju revealed that the song was inspired by his college-time love with a girl named Anita, which ended due to caste differences. The pain of separation turned into a soulful song that struck a chord with listeners, especially the 90s generation. Released in 2008, the song became a massive sensation and went on to garner over 112 million views on YouTube, emerging as a landmark in Telugu folk music.
Nagaraju also addressed the many rumours that followed the song’s popularity, clarifying that stories about the singer or the girl’s death were completely false. He explained that the confusion arose after his song was used as background audio for an unrelated video. Written during his college days, the song reflects a once mutual love that faded over time. Nagaraju shared that both he and Anita are now married separately and expressed gratitude to her for being the inspiration behind his success, while apologizing if the song caused her any discomfort.
