

The short film ‘Osey Balamma’, directed by Raman Nimmala, has been officially selected for the prestigious Sundance Film Festival 2026, to be held in the United States. Speaking at a media interaction in Gunadala, Vijayawada, the director said that out of nearly 11,000 entries submitted from across the world, only 50 films were shortlisted, making the selection a matter of great pride.
Raman Nimmala stated that Osey Balamma has created history by becoming the first Telugu short film to be selected in the competition category at the Sundance Film Festival. He revealed that the story was inspired by his childhood memories of spending summer vacations at his grandmother’s house. The film was shot in Neradigunta village in Telangana. He also shared that he left a well-paying job in New York with the aim of telling stories rooted in personal experiences that could gain international recognition.
