Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga has created a powerful impact in Indian cinema with just three films. His debut film Arjun Reddy, starring Vijay Deverakonda, became a massive box-office success despite its bold and controversial storytelling. Following that, Sandeep proved his mettle in Bollywood with two consecutive hits — Kabir Singh and Animal — cementing his reputation as one of the most daring filmmakers of this generation.
Sandeep’s unapologetic attitude and fearless responses to critics have often drawn comparisons to maverick director Ram Gopal Varma (RGV). Like RGV, he never shies away from expressing his opinions in interviews and public appearances. Interestingly, RGV himself has frequently praised Sandeep’s creativity and conviction as a filmmaker.
Recently, India’s top director SS Rajamouli also heaped praise on Sandeep Reddy. During a movie event, Rajamouli compared him to RGV, calling such directors “rare talents who come once in a blue moon.” After the release of Animal, Rajamouli reportedly went a step further and referred to Sandeep Reddy as “RGV ka Baap” (The father of RGV). This revelation was made by RGV himself during a recent round-table discussion with Nagarjuna and Sandeep Reddy, held as part of the promotional campaign for Shiva 4K.
Rajamouli is said to admire Sandeep’s unconventional approach to filmmaking — especially his unique treatment of characters and scenes — which breaks traditional cinematic norms. This recognition from one of India’s greatest directors highlights the massive influence Sandeep Reddy has achieved within a short span of time and with only three films to his name.
Up next, Sandeep Reddy Vanga is all set to direct Prabhas in an upcoming cop drama titled Spirit, which has already generated huge buzz across the film industry.
