Director Girish AD, who shot to fame with the Malayalam blockbuster ‘Premalu’, had planned to make a sequel titled ‘Premalu 2’. Although the project was officially announced, it was unexpectedly shelved. The director recently opened up about the setback at the success meet of his latest film, ‘Bethlehem Kudumba Unit’, featuring Mamitha Baiju. Girish revealed that he had spent an entire year working on ‘Premalu 2’ before the project came to a halt, describing the development as a major disappointment for the team.
Girish said he had wanted to make ‘Bethlehem Kudumba Unit’ even before ‘Premalu’ became a major hit. However, the success of ‘Premalu’ led him to consider making a sequel. He added that ‘Premalu 2’ would have been released during the Vishu festival last year if everything had gone according to plan. The idea for ‘Bethlehem Kudumba Unit’ emerged after the sequel was shelved. The team completed the latest film within a relatively short period, and Girish admitted that they had never expected it to become such a huge success and an industry hit.
