RGV Announces New Mumbai Underworld Thriller ‘Police Company’

Ram Gopal Varma is set to return with another film based on the Mumbai underworld, a subject he has explored extensively in his career. Titled Police Company, the film is being produced by T-Series, with Harshvardhan Rane playing the lead role. The story is inspired by a special police squad formed in Mumbai in the late 1990s and early 2000s to combat escalating gang wars. Rane will reportedly portray encounter specialist and police officer Daya Nayak, a key member of the squad.

Varma explained the film’s backdrop in a post on X, detailing the power struggle that emerged in Mumbai’s underworld following conflicts between Dawood Ibrahim and Chhota Rajan. He said several gangs entered the battle for supremacy, prompting the government to form a special squad. According to Varma, the squad eliminated more than 300 gangsters between 1997 and 2004. The film carries the tagline, “More dangerous than D-Company”, while the makers are expected to announce the remaining cast soon.
