Ram Gopal Varma has launched a sharp attack on India’s film censorship system, stating that the current model has no relevance in today’s digital world. Through a detailed social media post, he questioned why adults who are trusted to vote and make important life decisions are not trusted to choose the films they wish to watch. According to him, censorship underestimates the maturity of audiences.
Varma further argued that censor cuts have become meaningless because unedited versions of films are often available online within hours through various digital platforms. He urged filmmakers to unite against censorship and legally challenge the existing system. Instead of deleting scenes, he recommended implementing a transparent age-based classification system that allows viewers to decide what content they want to watch.
