Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao is playing the lead role in Dada, a biopic on former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly. Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and jointly produced by Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg, the film is currently progressing at a brisk pace. However, its recently released first-look poster sparked criticism on social media. The poster recreates Ganguly’s iconic shirt-waving celebration at Lord’s in 2002, but several netizens criticised its design and claimed it looked AI-generated.
Rajkummar Rao has now responded to the controversy in a recent interview. He said the filmmakers took the criticism positively and learned not to rush decisions, stressing the need for greater care in the project’s future promotions. The actor also revealed that he met Ganguly in person and spent time with him at Eden Gardens in Kolkata and at his residence. Rao said Ganguly openly shared personal experiences with him and described the former captain as a true legend whose contribution to Indian cricket will never be forgotten.
