Icon Star Allu Arjun’s global craze needs no special introduction. After creating a massive box office storm with Pushpa 2, Bunny has now taken the film to Japanese audiences as well. Released in Japan under the title Pushpa Kunrin, the movie was promoted on a grand scale, with Allu Arjun personally visiting the country and engaging with fans. However, the opening day reports from Japan have become a hot topic on social media. While Indian films traditionally enjoy a decent market in Japan especially after the success of SS Rajamouli’s RRR expectations were high for Pushpa 2. Yet, the initial response appears to be comparatively lower than that of some other big Telugu releases, sparking mixed reactions in trade circles.
Although Allu Arjun impressed Japanese fans by delivering dialogues in their language during the promotions, the impact of this on ticket sales remains uncertain. In terms of footfalls, Pushpa Kunrin is reportedly trailing behind a few earlier Telugu and Hindi films released in Japan. Despite a wide release across nearly 250 theatres, the turnout has not met expectations so far, coming as a mild shock to fans. That said, the Japanese box office functions differently, with long-term performance and word of mouth carrying more weight than opening numbers. RRR itself picked up slowly before emerging as a major hit. Therefore, it is too early to judge Pushpa’s final outcome. If family audiences connect over the weekend, the trend could reverse, making the coming days crucial for the film’s performance in Japan.
