

Prasoon Joshi is known for creating lyrics that go beyond ornamental words and explore emotions such as love, longing, separation, identity and life. His writing often connects personal experiences with wider social and human themes. Whether the subject is an individual, society, the nation or a dream, Joshi’s poetry has frequently reflected the emotions of contemporary life.
Born on September 16, 1971, in Almora, Uttarakhand, Joshi grew up in a culturally rich environment. He entered the world of advertising in Delhi and worked with several major brands, creating campaigns that became part of popular culture. His association with the “Thanda Matlab Coca-Cola” campaign brought him international recognition, including a Cannes Gold Lion in 2003. His journey as a film lyricist began with Lajja in 2001, followed by memorable work in films such as Hum Tum, Rang De Basanti, Taare Zameen Par, Ghajini, Delhi-6 and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. His songs for Taare Zameen Par and Chittagong earned him National Film Awards, while the Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri in 2015. Through simplicity, literary depth and emotional clarity, Joshi has created songs that continue to remain relevant beyond their films.
