A new discussion is emerging in Tollywood about whether paid promotional campaigns, once largely associated with film heroes, are now focusing on directors as well. Reports suggest that some meme pages on social media are running promotional content highlighting directors’ vision, filmmaking styles and storytelling techniques. Similar to hero-focused promotions, favourable posts and specially created videos are reportedly being used to build a stronger public image for certain directors. However, these claims have not been independently verified.
Such campaigns may help generate curiosity and increase audience interest in a film. However, if the final product fails to match the hype, the reaction could quickly turn negative. Those who initially praise a director may later criticise the film, while social media trolling can intensify the disappointment. This has renewed the discussion about the need to focus not only on promotional strategies but also on the quality of the content.
