Tollywood actress and television anchor Anasuya Bharadwaj has once again made headlines. She has initiated legal action against online harassment, morphed images, and obscene campaigns being carried out against her. Alleging damage to her reputation, Anasuya filed a police complaint against 42 individuals. Notably, the list includes film producers, journalists, television anchors and social media influencers. According to the latest information, cybercrime police have registered cases against a total of 73 individuals in connection with the matter.
As stated in her complaint, the harassment went far beyond criticism. Obscene videos and morphed images were allegedly created using Artificial Intelligence (AI) with the intent to malign her character and were widely circulated on social media platforms. She also highlighted instances of sexual and criminal threats, as well as actions that endangered her livelihood and personal safety in public life. Taking the complaint seriously, the police registered an FIR under stringent sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 75, 79, 336(4), 351, and 356, along with Sections 66-E and 67 of the Information Technology Act.
Singer Chinmayi Sripaada responded to the issue on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). She alleged that political figures were also involved in the harassment of Anasuya. Chinmayi specifically criticized Congress leader Bojja Sandhya Reddy and several news anchors for making derogatory remarks against Anasuya. Emphasizing the need for genuine commitment to women’s safety, Chinmayi urged the Congress leadership not to retain individuals who engage in such behavior within the party.
