The makers of the much-awaited film SSMB29, directed by SS Rajamouli and starring Mahesh Babu, have unveiled the first look of the antagonist Prithviraj Sukumaran as ‘Kumbha’.
In the poster, Prithviraj appears paralysed in his arms and legs, seated in a wheelchair equipped with mechanical arms, hinting that this powerful machine could be the source of his strength. Rajamouli described Kumbha as “sinister, ruthless, and powerful”, praising Prithviraj as “one of the finest actors he has ever known.”
However, reactions online were divided. While many fans appreciated Prithviraj’s unique and intense look, others criticized the character’s design, claiming it’s inspired by several past movie villains.
Netizens compared Kumbha to Vivek Oberoi’s character in Krrish 3, Suriya’s Athreya in 24, Dr. Harrison Wells from The Flash, and Professor Charles Xavier from X-Men. Some also noted similarities with Doctor Octopus from Spider-Man 2, citing the mechanical arms as a clear reference.
Many fans expressed disappointment with the first look, given the massive hype surrounding SSMB29.
Meanwhile, the makers announced that the title and first glimpse of the film will be revealed on November 15 at Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad, and the event will be live-streamed on JioHotstar. The climax shoot of this action-adventure epic is currently in progress.
