Netflix appears to be showing a growing preference for extending established series instead of relying entirely on new stories and unfamiliar characters. Popular titles such as Mismatched, Lust Stories and Delhi Crime have received successive seasons, giving the platform an opportunity to build on stories and characters that audiences already recognize. Familiar franchises can also make promotion and audience outreach comparatively easier.
At the same time, reports about second seasons for shows such as Dabba Cartel and other titles that did not achieve the expected level of success have raised questions about this strategy. Continuing an existing brand may offer certain advantages, but it could also limit opportunities for fresh concepts and new storytelling experiments. The debate now is whether relying on familiar properties is a sustainable approach or whether Netflix should create more space for original and unconventional stories.
