Krishna Vamshi’s romantic family entertainer ‘Ninne Pelladatha’, starring Nagarjuna and Tabu, has completed 30 years. Released on October 4, 1996, the film went on to earn a special place in the hearts of Telugu audiences with its blend of romance, family emotions and memorable music. Interestingly, Krishna Vamshi had initially prepared an action-oriented story for Nagarjuna, but later set it aside and developed a narrative centred on love and family relationships. The film was reportedly considered under the title ‘Sreenu–Pandu’ initially, before Nagarjuna suggested and finalised the title ‘Ninne Pelladatha’.
The makers reportedly considered around 65 actresses for the role of Mahalakshmi before selecting Tabu. Grand sets spread across seven acres were constructed at Annapurna Studios for the shoot. Sandeep Chowta’s music, particularly songs such as ‘Eto Vellipoyindi Manasu’, ‘Greeku Veerudu’ and ‘Kannullo Nee Roopame’, continues to remain popular among music lovers. The film went on to receive several honours, including a National Award, Filmfare and Nandi recognition. Even after three decades, the chemistry of Sreenu and Pandu continues to remain one of the memorable romances in Telugu cinema. During the film’s coverage, the shooting locations were reportedly bustling with several artistes, adding to the lively atmosphere around the production.
