The rise of pan-India cinema has transformed the Indian film industry, with filmmakers investing in big-budget projects featuring star actors. However, several films have proved that even with relatively new faces, a strong storyline can guarantee massive success. One such remarkable example is Chhaava, a film that exceeded all expectations and rewrote box office records. Made on a modest budget of ₹90 crore, the movie went on to collect over ₹800 crore worldwide, making it one of the biggest blockbusters in recent times.
Directed by Laxman Utekar, Chhaava stars Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna in lead roles. Released in theatres on February 14 last year, the film gradually built momentum and achieved phenomenal success. With music composed by A.R. Rahman and produced by Maddock Films, the movie collected ₹775 crore within just 37 days. Based on the Marathi novel Chhaava by Shivaji Sawant, the film portrays the life of Maratha king Sambhaji and his fierce resistance against the Mughals. Vicky Kaushal’s powerful performance received widespread acclaim. The film is currently streaming on Netflix in multiple languages including Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada.
