After delivering massive hits like Kaithi, Vikram, and Leo, director Lokesh Kanagaraj became one of India’s most celebrated filmmakers, thanks to his iconic Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU). Following the mixed response to his recent film Coolie, Lokesh has now surprised everyone by stepping in front of the camera for the first time as a hero.
His acting debut film is titled ‘DC’, directed by Arun Matheswaran, the filmmaker known for raw and gritty movies like Captain Miller and Rocky. The movie is being produced by Sun Pictures, the same banner behind Coolie.
Recently, the makers unveiled a short title teaser, which created a massive buzz online. The teaser carries a dark, violent tone, revealing that ‘DC’ stands for Devdas (Lokesh Kanagaraj) and Chandra (Wamiqa Gabbi).
Lokesh appears in a fierce avatar — blood-soaked face, knife in hand, walking through an eerie corridor — giving a glimpse of the intense characterization and wild energy he’s bringing to the role.
On the other side, actress Wamiqa Gabbi plays Chandra, appearing in a bold and surprising scene where she approaches Lokesh’s character holding a condom packet — a move that caught everyone off guard. Her performance hints at a strong, serious role that goes beyond glamour.
The teaser also teases a mix of gritty romance and violent action, with Arun Matheswaran’s signature style evident throughout. Adding to the impact is Anirudh Ravichander’s English theme track, which gives the teaser a stunning Hollywood-like vibe.
The film’s first schedule is currently being shot in Chennai and will continue till January. Once DC wraps, Lokesh plans to move on to his most-awaited project, Kaithi 2.
With DC slated for a Summer 2026 release, fans are eagerly waiting to see how one of India’s top directors transforms into a full-fledged action hero and delivers yet another wild cinematic experience.
