Last year, Telangana minister Konda Surekha created a huge controversy when she made derogatory comments about the Akkineni family while targeting former minister K. T. Rama Rao (KTR). Her remarks, which also mentioned Samantha, ex-wife of Naga Chaitanya, were deemed highly inappropriate and received widespread criticism from the public and media alike.
As a minister holding a responsible position, her comments on social media were considered unprofessional. Despite the backlash, Surekha initially refused to offer an unconditional apology and instead tried to justify her remarks. The Akkineni family, particularly Nagarjuna, reacted strongly by filing a defamation case against her.
Now, after 13 months, Konda Surekha has expressed regret over her comments. In a recent statement, she clarified:
“I had no intention to hurt Nagarjuna Garu or his family members. If my comments have caused any pain or misunderstanding, I regret it. I am withdrawing my remarks.”
However, her statement has sparked fresh criticism since she did not directly apologize but merely withdrew her comments. Many netizens are demanding that she issue a public apology to Nagarjuna, Naga Chaitanya, and Samantha as well.
