The ashes of legendary playback singer S. Janaki were immersed in the River Kaveri at Srirangapatna in Karnataka on Monday, fulfilling her final wish. Janaki passed away in Mysuru on Saturday, and her last rites were performed on Sunday. On Monday, her granddaughter Apsara, family members, and Vedic scholar Ramesh Sharma conducted traditional Telugu Brahmin rituals before immersing her ashes in the river.
Speaking on the occasion, Janaki's caretaker Naveen said the family carried out the immersion in accordance with the singer's final wish. He also dismissed circulating rumours, stating that allegations claiming Janaki had been kept under house arrest or that her property had been transferred to them were completely false. He added that a memorial would be built in her honour.
