Jana Nayakudu – Vijay’s last film before his political entry – is gearing up for a grand release on January 9. Recently, the makers unveiled the first single from the movie, and after watching the visuals, fans strongly believe that the film might be a remake of Bhagavanth Kesari. The trailer is expected to clear the air soon. Currently, the team is busy with post-production work, and Vijay will dub for his role after all the technical formalities are completed.
The production company, KVN Productions, has reportedly invested a massive budget in the project. However, fans are experiencing both excitement and concern about the developments surrounding the film.
On the positive side, the OTT rights of Jana Nayakudu have reportedly been sold to Amazon Prime Video for around ₹110 crore, which is a record deal. Overseas rights are said to be worth ₹80 crore, music rights about ₹35 crore, and distribution across other regions around ₹55 crore. The Tamil Nadu theatrical rights alone are expected to fetch the makers nearly ₹100 crore. Altogether, the total business could cross ₹400 crore, if all these deals go through.
However, the concern (B.P. part) lies in the fact that the producer wants to sell the theatrical rights to a single distributor, but many distributors seem hesitant to cooperate, according to Kollywood reports.
Given the sensitive political atmosphere, any opposition or obstruction from political parties could cause serious damage to the film’s release. Moreover, the movie reportedly contains political commentary and criticisms, which, if perceived as targeting specific figures, could lead to major controversies. Hence, distributors are being extremely cautious, preferring to buy rights for individual areas instead of a single-all India deal.
All these discussions might take at least another month to settle. Meanwhile, Vijay plans to hold a grand pre-release event to connect with his fans, but getting official permissions for it might not be so easy this time.
