SS Rajamouli is known for spending several years on his ambitious projects, with Baahubali and RRR being notable examples. However, his upcoming pan-world film Varanasi appears to be moving at a much faster pace. The project stars Mahesh Babu in the lead and is being mounted on a massive scale with high-end technology, elaborate sets, action sequences and international-level visuals. During a special Q&A session, Rajamouli revealed that more than 90 percent of the film’s shooting has already been completed.
The pace of Varanasi has particularly caught the attention of fans and trade circles when compared with RRR. The major shooting schedule of Varanasi reportedly took around 606 days, while RRR’s production continued for a much longer period. The team is now focusing on the remaining shoot and post-production activities, including visual effects and other technical work. Priyanka Chopra Jonas is paired opposite Mahesh Babu, while Malayalam star Prithviraj Sukumaran plays a key role. Varanasi is scheduled to release on April 7, 2027, and expectations are steadily rising around the project.
