There was a time when crossing the ₹100 crore mark was considered a major achievement in Indian cinema. During the 2010s, the Hindi and Tamil film industries began reaching the ₹300 crore range, while the benchmark has now moved much higher. The ₹1,000 crore gross has emerged as one of the biggest milestones in Indian cinema, with films from different industries successfully entering the elite club. Telugu cinema played a major role in taking the Indian box office to this level.
Tamil cinema, however, has been waiting for its first ₹1,000 crore grosser for years. Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 was widely considered a strong contender, especially after Jailer collected more than ₹600 crore worldwide. Many expected the sequel to deliver a much bigger box-office impact and potentially take Tamil cinema past the landmark. However, the trailer has received mixed reactions, with some viewers feeling that it does not offer the explosive scale they expected from the sequel. Whether Nelson and Rajinikanth can surprise audiences with the final film and help Jailer 2 achieve the ₹1,000 crore milestone remains to be seen after its theatrical release.
