For years, star heroes’ sons have been making grand entries into films, but their daughters often stay away from the limelight. Except for a few like Shruti Haasan, this has been the general trend in South Indian cinema. However, the tide seems to be changing. Reports suggest that Superstar Mahesh Babu’s niece and actress Manjula’s daughter, Jahnavi Ghattamaneni, is preparing to step into the film industry — a move that’s creating a lot of buzz among fans.
To understand the significance of this, one must look back a little. In the 1990s, Superstar Krishna wanted to launch his daughter Manjula as an actress. She was equally interested, and talks were held for her to star opposite Balakrishna. However, Krishna’s fans opposed the idea, requesting him not to let his daughter enter the glamour world. Respecting their sentiments, Krishna dropped the plan. Later, Manjula appeared in a couple of films, tried her hand at direction, and became a producer with Pokiri, which turned out to be a massive hit. Her husband, Sanjay Swaroop, has since been seen in several supporting roles.
Now, with Jahnavi gearing up to enter the industry, it seems Manjula’s unfulfilled dream is finding its way through her daughter. Unlike in the past, the audience today is more open-minded, and it’s unlikely anyone would object. Interestingly, Ramesh Babu’s daughter Bharti is also rumored to make her debut soon. And who knows — in a few years, even Mahesh Babu’s daughter Sitara might follow suit. The Ghattamaneni family, which has already given the industry stars like Mahesh Babu and Sudheer Babu, might soon see new faces like Jayakrishna, Charith, Darshan, and Gautham carrying the legacy forward.
