Actress Bhagyashree Borse, who entered Telugu cinema with Mister Bachchan, initially generated strong hype with her striking presence in promos. However, the film ended as a major disaster. Her next release, Kingdom, also fell flat and failed to leave an impression due to her limited role. Despite getting opportunities early in her career, Bhagyashree struggled to gain momentum as her first two films did not showcase her acting potential. With November bringing two releases — Kaantha and Andhra King Taluka — Bhagyashree hoped for a turnaround. Kaantha released first and received mixed reviews in Telugu, though Tamil critics praised it heavily.
Despite the film not being a mass entertainer, critics and audiences unanimously appreciated the performances. Standing alongside powerhouse actors Dulquer Salmaan and Samuthirakani, Bhagyashree delivered a surprisingly strong performance as a 1950s heroine. Director Selva Mani brought out her acting skills effectively, making Kaantha a career-boosting film for her regardless of its overall box-office outcome.
