Is Shankar Planning a Thriller Comeback?

Once a leading director in both Telugu and Tamil cinema, Shankar is currently facing a series of setbacks with back-to-back box office disappointments. Despite this, he is now focusing on a massive historical project titled ‘Velpari’, based on the famous Tamil novel Veera Yuga Nayagan Vel Pari by author Su. Venkatesan. The film is planned as a three-part historical epic, and pre-production work is reportedly in its final stage.

Meanwhile, industry buzz suggests that before starting Velpari, Shankar is planning to direct a gripping action thriller as a comeback attempt. After the failures of Indian 2 and Game Changer, he is said to be working on a strong, screenplay-driven commercial thriller designed to re-establish his position. Reports also indicate discussions with two young heroes for the project, which is expected to be completed quickly and released before he fully shifts focus to Velpari. An official announcement is expected soon.
