You might wonder — why is Prithviraj’s new film being compared to Pushpa? What’s the link? Once you read the details, it becomes clear.
Prithviraj Sukumaran, who is also playing the villain Kumbha in Mahesh Babu’s Varanasi, is coming up with his new film “Vilayath Buddha”, releasing this week. The Malayalam and Telugu trailers are already out.
But here’s the twist — many viewers felt the film gives strong Pushpa vibes.
Forests, red sandalwood smuggling, outsmarting the police… several elements look similar, leading to a buzz on social media. Because of this, Prithviraj is repeatedly facing the same question during promotions.
He clarified the issue in detail:
Vilayath Buddha was planned even before Pushpa.
The film is based on a novel written by renowned author G.R. Indugopalan.
‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ director Sachy was supposed to direct it, but after his unexpected demise in 2020, his assistant Jayan Nambiar took over.
The team had no idea pushpa had a similar backdrop while planning the project.
Due to delays, the film eventually moved to a 2025 release.
Prithviraj emphasized that there are no story similarities, and the Double Meanan character he plays has no resemblance to Pushpa Raj.
In fact, Vilayath Buddha is not about a hero–police officer ego clash. It unfolds in a completely different setup.
Only the forest backdrop and a few visual cues might appear slightly similar.
If Prithviraj is right and there are genuinely no similarities, then there’s no problem.
But if audiences find even slight resemblances, then the real debate will begin.
At the end of the day — good content always wins!
