Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi has spoken out about the budget disparity and lack of support faced by women-led films compared to male-centric projects. She recently attended the Cannes Film Festival and discussed the ongoing challenges in the film industry during an interview.
Huma emphasized that India is a diverse country with immense potential for original, women-centric storytelling rooted in its culture and mythology. She noted that female-led films often do not receive the same budgets or box office backing as male-led films, reflecting a persistent industry bias. Despite progress, she said such challenges still exist even today and must be continuously addressed. Huma added that the only way forward is to keep working and pushing boundaries, not just for oneself but for future generations of actresses. She is currently working on Toxic, directed by Geetu Mohandas and starring Yash.
