Suriya has experienced several ups and downs in his career, and Anjaan released as Sikandar in Telugu remains one of the most criticised films of his filmography. As the movie gears up for a grand re-release, director Lingusamy has revealed what went wrong during its original release 11 years ago.
Speaking about the intense trolling he faced, Lingusamy said:
“Anjaan was the most trolled film 11 years ago. I don’t fear criticism anymore because I’ve been targeted with every bad word over the years. During the release, I didn’t get the proper time for editing. I completely accept that it was my mistake.”
The director explained that the pressure surrounding the release, combined with Suriya’s strong hit streak at the time, pushed the team into a hurried post-production schedule. This rush affected the film’s final quality.
Interestingly, although the movie opened to mixed and negative reviews, over time it has gained a cult following among a segment of Suriya fans who appreciate its style and presentation.
With the new trimmed version now set for re-release, fans are hopeful that the film will finally receive the appreciation it missed during its theatrical run.
