Chiranjeevi’s 2001 film Daddy, directed by Suresh Krishna, has completed 25 years. The film received a decent response at the box office but did not achieve the blockbuster success generally associated with Chiranjeevi. On the occasion of its 25th anniversary, an interesting story about how the actor initially viewed the project has once again attracted attention.
The story was reportedly first narrated to Chiranjeevi, who felt that the character and storyline would suit Venkatesh better. He is said to have shared the same opinion with writer Bhupathi Raja. However, Raja reportedly tried to convince Chiranjeevi that the film would be a regular family entertainer for Venkatesh but could offer Chiranjeevi a different image as a family-oriented protagonist. After several people also suggested that the story would work well for him, Chiranjeevi eventually agreed to do the film. Following its release, Venkatesh reportedly told Chiranjeevi that the story might have worked even better for him, to which Chiranjeevi recalled that he had made the same suggestion before accepting the project.
Despite the film’s box-office performance, Daddy is remembered for its music. Songs such as Gummadi Gummadi, Naa Pranama and Vaana Vaana continue to be remembered by music lovers, with Gummadi Gummadi particularly associated with the emotional bond between fathers and children.
