The Tamil sports drama Lubber Pandhu, which released last year to solid responses from both critics and audiences, is now getting a Telugu remake. The original film, directed by debutant Tamizharasan Pachamuthu, also enjoyed strong viewership across multiple languages on OTT platforms. Actor Rajasekhar, who has been taking up impactful character roles in recent years, has acquired the Telugu remake rights. He recently appeared in Extra Ordinary Man and will soon be seen as Sharwanand’s father in Biker. The remake began its shoot a few days ago in Hyderabad, officially kickstarting the project.
Ani IV Sasi, known for films like Ninnila Ninnila and Uppu Kappurambhu, is directing the Telugu version. Viswadev Rachakonda steps into the lead role originally played by Harish Kalyan, while Rajasekhar reprises Dinesh’s part. Ramya Krishnan takes on the role essayed by Swasika, and Rajasekhar’s daughter Sivani plays the character originally portrayed by Sanjana Krishnamoorthy. The film also marks the reunion of Rajasekhar and Ramya Krishnan after nearly two decades, following their successful collaborations in the 1990s. However, with remakes facing challenges due to dubbed versions already available and reduced demand for digital rights, the performance of the Telugu version in theatres and on OTT remains uncertain.
