Bollywood actor Anupam Kher has come out in support of renowned Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi following a controversy at an event in Uttarakhand. The incident occurred after state minister Subodh Uniyal allegedly accused the singer of performing under the influence of alcohol on stage. Reacting to the episode, Kher said he had known Mehndi for many years and, to his knowledge, the singer did not consume alcohol. He also mentioned that Mehndi had been experiencing health issues over the past two to three years and suggested that the singer might have attended the event to honour his prior commitment to the organisers.
Kher expressed sadness after watching the video of the incident circulating online, stressing that publicly humiliating someone on stage was inappropriate. He said that even if the minister had concerns about the performance, the matter could have been discussed privately and respectfully with the singer. Kher described the treatment of Mehndi as unfair and expressed regret over the incident. He also offered an apology on behalf of the minister, extending his support to the singer amid the controversy.
