November usually doesn’t see too many big releases in Telugu cinema. Most of the time, small and mid-range films fill the theatres. Movies like Girlfriend and Kantha caught some attention in the first half of the month with Girlfriend performing decently, while Kantha couldn’t reach expectations. Next week, a few more small films including 12A Railway Colony are set to release.
Among all the films arriving this month, the one carrying the highest buzz is Ram Pothineni’s Andhra King Thaluka. Known for mass entertainers, Ram has picked a different concept this time a fan-centric biographical drama. Upendra plays a superstar in the film, while Ram appears as his devoted fan. The movie is directed by Mahesh Babu of Miss Shetty Mr. Polishetty fame, and produced on a grand scale by Mythri Movie Makers.
The film was initially scheduled for release on November 28. However, the team has now decided to bring the release forward by a day. Without delaying the film, they have preponed it to November 27. Earlier, the makers planned to screen US premieres two days before release, but with the date shift, the entire schedule has moved ahead by one day. A Thursday release also gives the film the advantage of a long weekend.
Since Akhanda 2, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna, is arriving in theatres the following week, the team seems to have timed this shift to avoid a direct clash with the massive release. Also, Keerthy Suresh’s Revolver Rita is slated for November 28, so moving ahead ensures no overlap.
Ram, who has been waiting for a solid hit for a while, is hoping Andhra King Thaluka will bring him the success he needs. The makers believe the new release date will work in the film’s favor.
