Lyricist Anantha Sriram has expressed his support for director Buchi Babu Sana amid the controversy surrounding the portrayal of Janhvi Kapoor’s character in Peddi. Speaking at a recent event, Anantha Sriram stated that he was not pleased with Buchi Babu having to apologize for creative decisions related to a character. He emphasized that a filmmaker has a clear understanding of the story and the characters he creates.
He further argued that opinions expressed on social media are increasingly influencing public perception and placing unnecessary pressure on filmmakers. While acknowledging that Buchi Babu may have apologized in the spirit of democracy and respecting audience sentiments, Anantha Sriram warned that excessive criticism could affect creative freedom in the industry. He remarked that if such trends continue, filmmakers may hesitate to make commercial cinema, leading to a future dominated by documentary-style content rather than mainstream entertainment.
