Actress Rakul Preet Singh, who is set to play Shurpanakha, the sister of Ravana, in Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming film ‘Ramayana: Part 1’, has shared interesting insights about her character. In a recent interview, Rakul said the script helped her explore several lesser-known aspects of Shurpanakha’s life. She found it particularly fascinating to learn about the character’s journey before and after the incident in which Lakshmana cuts off her nose.

Rakul said Shurpanakha has often been remembered in history merely as a frightening antagonist, but her personality has many different layers. She noted that Shurpanakha was considered one of the most beautiful women in Lanka and possessed a strong sense of pride. According to Rakul, it was the character’s natural complexity and the many unexplored dimensions of her personality that attracted her to take on the role.
